We all know Gates made a huge leap with respect to Computers at home. So does Jobs. Variations, technologies, passion added to all those. I should admit that my first computer though was on DOS, my first computer experience was on UNIX and the likes. I will never compromise Unix or its variants with anything else. Let's come to personal computers, home use etc. (I am not touching on the gadgets or smart phones).
DOS/Windows PCs evolved over a period and they started to get heavier with respect to processing, features and to feed the hunger of newer games. By "heavier" I did not mean the hardware, but the OS underneath. The new generation PCs became sexier, light weight and what not. The fundamental issue I or any others had was, Time to Boot or Process as well as endless Blue Screens (ie., crashes). I slowly started to loose interest in Windows, though did not have much choice. I have kept myself off from Apple products, since I thought they are more expensive (they are relatively still) and little complex to use, etc.
All these were from 2002 to 2006.
I am an amateur photography enthusiast... which lead me admire how some of the photo processing folks been enjoying the features of Apple Mac. In addition, started exploring what a Mac can do that a Windows PC cant. Less impacts to Virus, cool/simple native photo library as well as photo editor and all the more, much faster to boot and process.
With a bit of dilemma bought my first Macbook in 2007. It is true that there is a bit of learning curve... however no regrets. When more Viral attacks been wiping off the Windows PCs of Win98, XP, Vista, etc... Mac was steady. That first step indeed helped me be more productive and been adamantly refusing to use Windows even for official work. I do have a virtual box setup on my Mac for Windows oriented work.
All these said... does not mean Windows is good for nothing... it is just my High Preference on Mac over Windows. I am told Win 10 took a greater leap and has great features etc., but do not have any first hand experience.

Pretty happy with Mac products... which in a way lead into my Son's blood. At home more Apple products than Windows or Android.
Personally I am expecting much more from Apple. Steve Jobs departure certainly impacted, but the Apple culture should catch up to further the dreams of Jobs.
