A rare conversation between Ramkrishna Paramahansa & Swami Vivekananda

1. Swami Vivekanand:- I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic.
Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free.

2. Swami Vivekanand:- Why has life become complicated now?
Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Stop analyzing life.. It makes it complicated. Just live it.

Kissing Facts

1. The science of kissing is called philhematology

2. On the average, a person spends 20,160 minutes (two weeks) of his life on kissing.

SOME GOLDEN THOUGHTS OF THIRUKKURAL

1. If your child lies to you often, it is because you over-react too harshly to their inappropriate behaviour.

2. If your child is not taught to confide in you about their mistakes, you’ve lost them.

Things That Feed The Soul.

A man went to a pet store to buy a parrot. He thought the bird might fill some of his lonely hours. The very next day, however, he came back to complain, "That bird doesn't talk."

The store owner asked if he had a mirror in its cage, and the man said he didn't. "Oh, parrots love mirrors," he explained. "When he sees his reflection in the mirror, he'll just start talking away." So he sold him a birdcage mirror.

Most of us value the art of giving, theoretically

But when it comes to giving away our last available resource, our faith isn't strong enough to trust even our Creator.  We fall into the trap of "What if" suspicion.

There is a legend of a man who was lost in the desert, dying of thirst. He stumbled on until he came to an abandoned house. Outside the dilapidated, windowless, weather–beaten, deserted shack was a pump. He stumbled forward and began pumping furiously, but no water came from the well. Then he noticed a small jug with a cork at the top and a note written on the side: "You have to prime the pump with water, my friend. P.S. And fill the jug again before you leave." He pulled out a cork and saw that the jug was full of water.

Is our communication with God any different?

A construction supervisor from 6th floor of the building was calling a worker working on the ground floor. Because of construction noise, the worker on ground floor did not hear his supervisor calling.

To draw his attention, the supervisor threw a 10 rupee note from up which fell right around in front of the worker. The worker picked up the 10 rupee note, put it in his pocket & continued with his work.
Again to draw the attention of worker, the supervisor now threw a 500 rupee note & the worker did the same, picked the 500 rupee note, put it in his pocket & continued with his work.

Now to draw attention of the worker, the supervisor picked a small stone & threw it on the worker. The stone hit exactly the worker's head. This time the worker looked up & the supervisor communicated with the worker.

Monkey Business

There were lot of monkeys in a village.

One day a merchant came to that village to buy these monkeys.
He announced that he will buy a monkey @  hundred rupees each.

The villagers thought that this man is mad. They thought  , how can somebody buy stray monkeys. Does anybody give 100 rupees for these useless monkeys?

Purpose is more important than need

In the National Geographic channel, we have seen lion chasing deer and finally eating it.

But do we know......9 out of 10 times, deer wins, i.e escapes ?  Wonder why ?

Only a very few remember what life was like before

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind.

She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her.

A 99.95% challenge that you will have a wrong answer

Once there was loving couple travelling in a bus in a mountainous area. They decided to get down from bus at some place. After the couple got down at some place the bus moved on. As the bus moved on, a huge rock fell on the bus from the mountain and crushed the bus to crumbs. Everybody on board was killed.

We would most probably say "Lucky we got down"

MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY

Germany is a highly industrialized country. In such a country, many will think its people lead a luxurious life.

When we arrived at Hamburg , my colleagues walked into the restaurant, we noticed that a lot of tables were empty. There was a table where a young couple was having their meal. There were only two dishes and two cans of beer on the table. I wondered if such simple meal could be romantic, and whether the girl will leave this stingy guy.

Height of Work Pressure

I was flashing my ID card instead of unlocking the house door with keys.

Me and my friends went out for dinner in one of the best restaurants and as I finished I started walking towards the wash basin with Plates in my hand.

You Do God's Work And God Himself Takes Care Of You

One day Krishna & Arjuna were taking their usual walk, when they came across an old Brahmin begging, taking pity on his condition, Arjuna gave him a bag of gold coins.

The man was overjoyed. On his way to home, he was robbed by a thief in the forest. He cursed his fate and the next day set off to beg again.
Arjuna & Krishna saw him again & got to know his story. Arjuna once again took pity and gave him a large diamond.

Life Filled With Happiness Or A Meaningful Life? - A Discussion

Zackir : If you were to choose only one of the two, which one would you? A life filled with happiness or a meaningful life?

Meaningful life and a happy life often go hand-in-hand, but not always.
A research suggests...Meaning (separate from happiness) is not connected with whether one is healthy, has enough money, or feels comfortable in life, while happiness (separate from meaning) is connected to them

Usefulness Is From Emptiness

We join spokes together in a wheel, but it is the center hole that makes the wagon move.

The usefulness of the wheel is always in that empty innermost. We shape clay into a pot, but it is the space inside that holds whatever we want. The usefulness of the pot is always in that empty innermost.
We cut walls, floor, ceiling, doors and windows for a house, but it is the inner space that makes it livable. The usefulness of a house is always in that empty innermost.

We work with being, but non-being is what we use.

Profit comes from external form, but usefulness comes from the emptiness
Therefore, something is shaped into what is; but its usefulness comes from what is not.

Who is Happy?

A Crow was absolutely satisfied in life.

But one day he saw a swan...
This swan is so white and I am so black...crow thought.

This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.
He expressed his thoughts to the swan.

In The Flower Shop

The woman was strolling through a shopping mall when she noticed a poster announcing a new flower shop. When she went in, she got a shock; she saw no vases, no arrangements, and it was God in person who stood behind the counter.

We Spend A Good Deal Of Our Life And Energy Trying To Please Others

Mother and son are at a snack-bar. After taking the mother’s order, the waitress turns to the boy:

And what will you be wanting?”
A hotdog.”

FAITH IS NOT IN BELIEF

A man was chased off a cliff by a tiger. He fell, and just managed to hold onto a branch. Six feet above him stood the tiger, snarling. A hundred feet below, a violent sea lashed fierce-looking rocks. To his horror, he noticed that the branch he was clutching was being gnawed at its roots by two rats. Seeing he was doomed, he cried out, "O God, save me!"

Asking One To Excuse And Forgive Takes A Lot Of Courage

Since we win over our ego. . .It's worth it.  An incident in Michelangelo's life....

A piece of art, whatever form it may be reflects the artist. Once Michelangelo was engaged in painting Jesua Christ while working in the Sistine chapel. The work was close to completion with just a few strokes of the finishing touches.
However the great artist was dissatisfied as the completed look of Jesus would not emerge. He found that the visage of Jesus lacked the softness and femininity that would actually bring the work to the desired completion.
On an inward reflection, he came to understand that he had fought with one of his friends and that the bitterness still lingered within him. He suddenly remembered the words of Christ that when goes to pray with bitterness towards another, one has to first rush to his friend and seek his forgiveness before indulging in prayer.
Michelangelo immediately rushed out of the chapel and sought the forgiveness of the friend, clearing even the least trace of hatred. He then pursued with his painting. Jesus then emerged beautifully in his work of art as his heart was in complete tune with the work.

Pleasing Act - A Group Discussion

Zackir : We can spend our whole life doing what we don’t want to do, and die. Or we can spend our life doing what we do want to do, and die. The end result is the same. The question is whether or not we are going to enjoy ourselves in the meantime.

Yesterday, I received a video of a respectable and celebrated poet / song writer, addressing an audience, on the most controversial topic in India.

Forgive and Forget - A Group Discussion

Zackir : We do exactly what is preached. . . . "Forgive & Forget".  Yet, when we see the person who hurt us or hear of him/her, the old anger & hatred returns afresh. Why ?

Suresh :  I think we wear an act to forgive/forget, while deep rooting the grudge (unconsciously) with a picture of the situation or the person into our sub conscious. Unless we deliberately erase ... we will fall trap. One thing (to a degree) helped me is through the blesses and we'll wishes towards that person in a positive way. Law of nature is ... What one Give is What is Received. This may sound too simple, but a fact that require patience. So, believe in it with patience. My 2¢.

Noble-hearted Marzuki - Indonesian Court

Very moving, a judge named Marzuki, in the Court of Indonesia, was choked with a description of the offender who pleaded guilty to an old lady and steal potatoes.

In the room of justice, he sat pondering check charge to a grandmother accused of stealing potatoes. Grandmother appeals that her life was poor, her son is sick, and grandson in hunger. But the owner of the farm manager still maintain that this should be made a lesson to the others.

Are you satisfied with your Life ?

Most of us in this group have lived (or at least spent) two-thirds of our life by now. Yet, if we were stopped and asked that question impromptu, we probably won’t be able to give a candid answer.  We are pre-occupied with our ever growing to-do list that modern life bestowed upon us.  There’s so much of hustle and bustle surrounding us and in this world of relentless noise, silence is prime casualty.

SECRECY : THE ENEMY OF INTIMACY

Of all the jokes we shared in S-WAG Husband-Wife jokes outnumbered the rest and invariably continues to captivate us. I thought of compiling something about this palatable institution that unites two elements that are fundamentally, naturally and beautifully different.
SECRECY : THE ENEMY OF INTIMACY

If you want someone to say yes to something you’re asking for, try this

Nod as you ask. Our brains have what are called ‘mirror neurons’ which activate to make us mimic other people’s actions. "Sometimes" they will also start to nod, which then makes them then agree with you.

If you have a big favor to ask, start by asking smaller ones ahead of time. This is called the foot in the door phenomenon. If you ask for small things, then work up to big things, people are more likely to say yes than if you start off with a huge favor.

Inversely, if you are asking for a small favor but still know that they will probably say no, start by asking them for a huge favour. Then when they say no, ask for the smaller one. They’re more likely to say yes, especially if they feel a bit bad about turning down the first request.

Four Aspects of Social Judgment

Fire At The Local Chemical Plant

One night outside a small town in Southern Ireland, a fire started inside the local chemical plant.
In the blink of an eye, it exploded into  massive flames. The alarm went out to all fire departments for miles around.

When the fire fighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company President rushed to the fire Chief and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be    saved. I'll give 50,000 Euros to the fire department that brings them out intact."

Pilot and Daughter Story - An Understanding

A business man was late for his flight. He reached the boarding gate just before it closed. Sweating and out of breath, he scanned his boarding pass at the counter and quickly made his way to the plane.
Arriving at his seat, he greeted his companions for the next few hours: a middle-aged woman sitting at the window, and a little girl sitting on the aisle seat. After stowing his bag above, he took his place between them.

Even Gods Need Protection.

Wife to hubby: Darling in pictures of Shiva-Parvati, Shiva has a Trishool. In pictures of Vishnu-Lakshmi, Vishnu has Chakra in hand and pictures of Rama-Sita, Rama has bow in hand. But in case of Krishna-Radha, he has flute in hand. Why is this?

Hubby: You see dear the three Gods whom you mentioned first are with the wives. That is why they have weapons. Krishna is with his girlfriend. Hence no weapons required. This shows when it comes to dealing with wives, even Gods need protection.
