Why do you worship God?

Why do you worship God? - a group discussion

Zackir : I think most, if not all in this group, believe in God.  Can you (if you care to answer) tell, why you worship God?
Sharath  : One way of worship god is to bring lot of positive energy to our mulaa... Science energy management system...

Sekar  : Because, the belief in God gives unknown strength which you feel some one is there with you for support in difficult times .
Sekar  : Which is very much required for the people who need that external support even if it is non excisted the belief can take you forward . Nothing wrong in that.

Zackir : Sharath, so in your reply...my comprehension is that..we expect something in return for worship...is that what you intend to say?
Zackir : Sekar,  I know you believe in God...But why do you worship Him?

Sekar  : No, Zackir , to my heart I don't.  Only belief is there is a super power .  Which Nature, I don't want call it God,  And have lot of false belief on rituals.  I don't warship for my own or others for any return benefits . But like and respect the people who believe . Even that belief is a great strength for them.
Sharath  : It's not expecting something in return... Enjoying the positive vibration when we come out of temple...

Zackir : Sharath, OK you enjoy the positive vibration when you come out of the temple.  But there's a reason why want to go to the temple right? To worship and to receive the positive energy...which in itself is the purpose!!
Sekar  : அன்பு மயமான சிவத்தை விட அன்பானவனே சிவம்.  This my strong belief in my heart .

Zackir : Sekar, I got your thought on this...
Zackir : Did God ever ask us to worship Him?  Did he ever say "You'll get what you need only if you worship me"?

MJ Suresh  : I am inclined to Sekar's thoughts. Certainly there is something in return expected in the process of worship. That something can be anything from...
... A pass in +2

... I love others and I am to loved
... Peace at home and work

Lingesh  : No. It's our belief. But if you worship you get all the good things in your life in return.
Sekar  : என் எண்ணம். கடவுள் என்று ஒருவர் இருந்தாலும்  அவரை சும்மா போய் சொரியகூடாது.

Zackir : Sekar, I agree with you we don't want to torture Him (assuming He is a Person) for everything we need
Sekar  : இந்த விருப்பம் எல்லாம் ஒருவருடைய கடின உழைப்பால்  அடைய முடியும் .
 ... A pass in +2
... I love others and I am to loved
... Peace at home and work

Lingesh  : Sekar ennum periyar ennum periyar dasan😊
MJ Suresh  : Yes... உழைப்பு... But... that's the expectation about worship, which in response to Zak's question.

Zackir : Lingesh, You said you get all the good things in life if you worship Him....Isn't belief alone necessary to accomplish that?  Why do you have to do that extra step of worshipping? That's my question
Zackir : உழைப்பு with belief but without worship. Will it work?

Sekar  : Most of the times it works , some times it may not. The same thing applicable to worship also.
Sekar  : இல்லை  lings, நான் என் மனைவியின் பக்திக்கு பனிந்து மொட்டை போடுவேன். கோவிலுக்கு போவேன்.

Lingesh  : Will work to an extent. Paghutharivu paasarayil payundra kalaignar kooda karumari Amman koilukku sendradhu ondu. Manjal thundar endru endrum sellamaga azaikapadugirar.

Lingesh  : Ji.... What you have done is what MK has done
Sekar  : Kalagnar oru veshadari.  Podu vazhkai veru...

Zackir : MK does worship.  To the outside world, he says No

Lingesh  : I think so.
Lingesh  : உழைப்பு with belief  with worship will do wonders n miracles. I believe in this n most of the doctors believe this.

Sekar  : என் எண்ணம் வேறு.  I do my obligation and gratitude towards the magnanimity of my wife. I will not obliged to this for anyone's
Lingesh  : Obliged to your wife and not for anyone else. That's fine.

Zackir : Would God cut off Oxygen supply if none WORSHIPPED;  but everyone BELIEVED He will not cut off the supply.  What's your take on this?
Lingesh  : God will never cut off oxygen. Only we the humans will cut everything to others if u do not get it, like tourser dass cut the trees.

Zackir : Sekar, You are a worshipper by being a good husband. You are a worshipper by being a good father, good businessman, good employer, good human being.
Zackir : Lingesh,  you more or less got to the point in question

Zackir :  Your yesterday's post on ashtami, navami was interesting to read. To some, it should be thought provoking. And to some who are strongly obsessed with traditional beliefs, it could be anger provoking.  With extreme caution, I stopped short of sending the below message, for the same reason that it MIGHT hurt someone.
It's an undeniable fact that prayers and belief are meant to be only an accompaniment to efforts.  Here you go....

PRAY, BUT DON'T GET IT WRONG
Many of us pray to specific deities for specific things. Soldiers pray to Bajrang Bali for victory while maidens pray to Shiva for suitable grooms; students see mishandling of a textbook as an insult to Saraswati, while turning down monetary benefit is sending back “ghar aayi Lakshmi”.

Along the way, sometimes, we simplistically equate our devotion with an obligation on the part of the deity to reward. “If I really pray, God will give it to me.” Faith moves mountains, yes, but it is not God’s accountability to give because we gushingly ask. A fair boss will reward those who deserve it the most, and not, hopefully, those who are most boss-aligned, or who beseech the most. The Supreme Managers of the Universe are likely to know their domains better, and be fairer, than the average appraising authority, surely?
Vivekananda derided fixation with formal worship, saying “lying complacently on the bed and ringing the bell now and then is a sort of disease, pure and simple…” Lakshmi may well bestow wealth, but Bill Gates and Warren Buffett — or Lady Gaga, for that matter — have got along just fine without ringing bells or lighting lamps. And by no stretch of imagination did Einstein attribute his knowledge to the grace of Saraswati. The fanatically efficient Germans make the best machines without seeking Vishwakarma’s blessings.

If there are gods, then all gods’ children may have their love equally, but when they reward, they seem to often place merit above affection. Let’s pray, sure — but then quickly get back to work.
Lingesh  : When you do your sincere job for what you're looking for, you will definitely get it. When you worship the divine you ensures that you get it right 100%. Basically it's out of fear we worship God. That's bayam kalandha bhakthi or bayam elladha bhakti.

Sekar  : I hope it is this
Zackir : Lingesh,

It's not worship, if it is for a reward
It's not worship, if it is for fear (of punishment)

IT IS WORSHIP, IF IT IS YOUR LOVE FOR HIM

Sharath  : God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives life, breath, and all things.
